About Me

Huang Xi, also know by his pen name Huang Simao, is a Chinese contemporary artist residing in Songzhuang, Beijing. He has worked and exhibited extensively in Xiamen, Shanghai, and Beijing. More recently, Huang Xi has exhibited in the United States, Europe, and South Korea. His works have been collected domestically and internationally, for both personal and investment purposes.

Simao’s interest in art began at an early age in his hometown of Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. He spent hours as a child watching family members create patterns and paintings on ceramic pieces. His passion for design enabled him to pursue a major in art, attending a middle school, high school and university that all taught majors in Fine Arts. For twenty years he has experimented with a number of styles and mediums culminating in his most recent series the “Edge of Reason”.

“Edge of Reason” is a series of oil paintings which makes prominent use of paper as the subject matter. The figures painted in these works contain people, figures, animals or objects shaped with realistic looking paper. Representations of the fragility of life, both psychologically and physically.
